FILM TITLE
We've decided to call our film 'Death in Bloom' because the defining theme in the trailer is death and what comes after as our narrative follows a girl who returns as a ghost after being accidentally killed by a plant pot. The contrast between 'bloom', which by definition means something of a fresh and healthy appearance and has connotations of life and being alive, and 'death' echoes the binary opposites of our protagonists, one of whom is alive and the other is dead. Both ends of the title are linked by the dead girl's supposed return to life which links to the term 'bloom'. The use of a horticultural semantic field in the title was also chosen to represent the male protagonist's keen interest in plants, which is comedically used against him when he accidentally kills the girl with a plant pot. This is ironic because plants are seen as symbolic of new beginnings and life.

MAKING A BLACK COMEDY
For this project, we have chosen to explore the black comedy genre. One of our main objectives is to emphasize comedy through the cinematography of the text, taking inspiration from directors like Edgar Wright and Wes Anderson, in an attempt to create something more complex and intelligent. Rather than, for example, using slapstick comedy or fully relying on a good script to engage the audience we can push ourselves to incorporate every aspect of film into replicating the genre.
The video above looks at 'visual comedy' which is very important to our film trailer. We want to avoid comedy tropes or cliches by creating something original, but still funny.
